As
long as I can remember I wanted to be a sister. My
problem was: which religious community to choose?
After meeting the Sisters of Mercy for the first
time in high school, I knew this was the community
for me. During my high school years I met many of
the sisters in and out of the classroom. I found
them to be friendly, happy and understanding. It
was very obvious to me that they were doing
God’s work.
I have received many rewards and blessings during
my 50 years as a Sister of Mercy. Having the
opportunity to work as a teacher in both
elementary and high school has been a very
important part of my ministry. When I think of all
the students I had over the years, I pray that I
was a good influence on them and helped all of
them form a close relationship with God.
What I love most about being a Sister of Mercy is
the support and love I receive from my community.
Any woman today who is considering becoming a
Sister of Mercy should do the same as we did 50
years ago: Ask yourself the important questions
that should help with your decision. Do I want
to be of service? Is God really calling me? Do I
believe that I can make a difference, and can I
dedicate myself to that purpose? |
