New York Sisters of Mercy Hold Fourth Golf Classic
Proceeds to benefit the Sisters and Mercy Secondary Education

Hartsdale, NY–February 19, 2004 - The Sisters of Mercy Fourth Annual Golf Classic will be held on Tuesday, May 11, 2004, at Ardsley Country Club, Ardsley-on-Hudson, NY. Proceeds will benefit the Sisters and Mercy Secondary Education, a collaborative initiative to improve educational opportunities for students at St. Catharine Academy, Bronx, NY, and Our Lady of Victory Academy, Dobbs Ferry, NY.

Following brunch at one of the oldest and most distinguished country clubs in America, golfers will tee-off with a shotgun start at 12:30 pm. A Hole-in-One Contest will be sponsored by Ray Catena Lexus of Larchmont, NY. A grand dinner buffet with open bar will follow at 6 pm on the terrace overlooking the Hudson River. There will be awards, prizes, raffle, and a silent auction. The cost is $300 for the complete golf package, which includes brunch, golf, cocktails, and dinner, or $100 for dinner and cocktails only. Tee and green sponsorships are available for $300, and additional sponsorship-package opportunities range from $750 to $10,000. For reservations or sponsorship information, please call Kristina Papa at (914) 328-3200 x417.

The Sisters of Mercy are particularly grateful to the generosity of loyal supporters like Glenn Diehl, president of Skyline Displays Manhattan, who is donating all event signs for the fourth year in a row. “We believe in the work and ministry of the Sisters of Mercy and want to help anyway we can,” Diehl said.

Proceeds from last year’s Golf Classic have been instrumental in helping two Mercy schools acquire some greatly needed computer equipment. Specifically, Our Lady of Victory Academy was able to purchase computers on wheels, making needed technology readily available and easily transportable. St. Catharine Academy was able to make considerable improvements on their existing student computer lab.

The Sisters of Mercy Regional Community of New York is a nonprofit organization with a 158-year history of serving the sick, poor, and uneducated. Sr. Suzanne Elliott, RSM, community president, is delighted about the fourth anniversary of what has become our annual spring tradition. “For three consecutive years, this event has helped provide necessary funding to enhance educational opportunities for deserving young women. Our vision is for these women to go on to make significant contributions in their community, church, and world. And we are overjoyed at the participation of friends and neighbors who recognize and wholeheartedly support this vital part of our mission,” Sr. Suzanne said.

Co-Chairs of the Golf Classic are Bill Angarano of Harrison, Mike Ciaramella of Hawthorne, and Jack McArdle of Ardsley.
