The late John Cardinal O'Connor, Archbishop of New York, expressed his support for the Campaign for Marian Woods in a letter signed on January 4, 2000. The letter begins: "I am delighted to be able to add my support to the Marian Woods Campaign. I have been kept informed about the project since its inception, and as I have told Sr. Patricia Wolf, RSM, the Board Chairperson, I applaud all five communities for their vision and collaboration to make Marian Woods a reality." The Cardinal went on to add, "This unique home for our senior religious will be quite unlike anything in the Archdiocese, and represents, I believe, a unique opportunity to help those who have cared for so many for so long." Construction Update Over the past few months the staff at the administrative offices of the Sisters of Mercy have watched the construction site at Marian Woods evolve from an "archeological dig" into a discernable building. Windows and walls have taken shape. Sr. Paschal Hill, RSM, President of Marian Woods, feels that the construction is just about on schedule. "We lost a few days due to weather, but have made up some of that time already," she said. "We are on target for a end of October, 2000 completion date." |
